Railroad museums are dedicated to the preservation, restoration, collection, and interpretation of artifacts associated with railroading. They are established to preserve a tangible record of the railroad era for future generations. These museums are generally operated by volunteers who put in many hours in maintaining and preserving historic rolling stock. From time to time railroad museums conduct educational programs, provide steam tours and holds special events. The funding for railroad museums generally comes from memberships, museum admissions, goverment grants, etc. Sometimes museums also receive historic equipment as a gift from railroad companies.
